What do I need to become a volunteer?

Time commitment – to supporting our clients
Interpersonal skills – to learn the best ways of doing that

We need a range of skills and types of help. Some volunteers can offer an amount of time each week on a regular basis, while others might assist us on a "once off" basis with a particular task or project.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers at St Joe's

  • Many cook the evening meal and assist with the clearing up after supper.
  • The gardens are beautifully kept by yet another volunteer.
  • Volunteers pick up food donations from local supermarkets.

Volunteers at the Old Glassworks & St Martin’s

  • Volunteers work along side the project team, befriending clients and assisting them to obtain relevant information to support their needs.

Induction & Training

Stonepillow follows a training development programme for their workforce and all volunteers will be offered the opportunity to join when relevant to their role.

So far this year, our staff and volunteers have attended the following training courses:
St. John's Ambulance First Aid course (Specifically designed for those dealing with homeless clients)

  • Mental Health issues
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Non Crisis Intervention
  • Blood borne viruses
  • Harm reduction and needle exchange
